Grants available for projects that promote walking

The city of Edmonds, which has several sidewalk projects in the works, brought this opportunity to attention.

America Walks and the Every Body Walk! Collaborative are offering up to 15 microgrants of $2,500 each for activities aimed at increasing local walking programs.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. Oct. 15.

The opportunity is pegged to the U.S. Surgeon General’s Call to Action on Walking and Walkability.

With no gym membership or expensive equipment required, walking is pegged as one of the easiest ways to take a step to a healthier lifestyle that includes more movement in general.
