Motorcyclist dies in Camano collision with patrol car

CAMANO ISLAND — A motorcyclist died Saturday after colliding head-on with an Island County Sheriff’s Office patrol car, Washington state troopers said.

The crash occurred at 5:23 p.m. on S. Camano Drive near E. Awa Lane.

The motorcyclist had been headed south when he failed to make a turn and drove into the oncoming lane of traffic, Trooper Mark Francis said. The motorcycle ran into a marked Dodge Charger patrol car headed north.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene, Francis said. The deputy in the patrol car was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett with back and arm injuries.

Crash investigators were on the scene Saturday evening.
