Fleeing robbery suspect disrupts I-5 traffic near Lynnwood

LYNNWOOD — A shoplifting suspect ran across I-5 near Lynnwood on Wednesday morning, causing minor crashes, before being captured.

The incident started at Walmart on 164th Street SW about 9:30 a.m., Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Shari Ireton said. The suspect was involved in a scuffle with security staff there before fleeing.

An off-duty police officer who happened to be in the area made the arrest. A sheriff’s deputy suffered minor cuts during the incident.

The man, 28, was to be booked into the Snohomish County Jail. Under state law, shoplifting cases can be prosecuted as robberies if force was used.
