Monroe’s annual Fair Days Parade begins at 11 a.m.

MONROE — The annual Fair Days Parade is set to roll through downtown at 11 a.m. Saturday. It has been a Monroe tradition since 1937.

“It’s one of those warm and fuzzy community gatherings that you just don’t see anymore,” Monroe Chamber of Commerce Director Una Wirkebau-Hartt said. “This is one of those feel-good hometown events.”

A street fair featuring more than 50 vendors, a beer garden, live music and various performers will be set up from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on West Main Street between Blakeley and Lewis streets.

The parade takes place in Monroe’s newly updated downtown, which now has wider sidewalks and features designed to revitalize the area by drawing in people and keeping them longer.

The parade starts at Park Place Middle School and travels east on West Main Street before turning north onto Blakeley Street. There are at least 70 entries, including pirates, Star Wars storm troopers, Smokey Bear, marching bands and even a dancing horse group, Wirkebau-Hartt said.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” she said. “It obviously has a huge economic benefit to the east (Skykomish) Valley.”
