Plan your weekend: The fair, sea creatures, cooking, gardening, wizards

Everyone loves a fair: The Evergreen State Fair in Monroe is under way and continues through Labor Day. We have a plenty of ideas for fun at the fair in our story. And if you want to hear some live music, check our roundup of who’s playing.

Super: Enjoy the comic adventures of a super not-so-super hero at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Snohomish Library. Magic, juggling, music, and lots of physical comedy help tell the story of Gertrude Gumstuck, whose main goal in life is to help people.

Fresh flavor: Learn the best way to cook with fresh herbs, get new recipes and try out food prepared with herbs. The class is $5 at is at 11 a.m. Saturday at Li’l Sprout Nursery &Garden Center, 17414 Bothell Everett Highway.

Zombies: Lombardi’s Italian Restaurant on the Everett waterfront hosts Outdoor Movie Night at 10 p.m. Friday with “Shaun of the Dead.” Sit on the patio and enjoy the film and food and drink specials. Admission is $10.

Abracadabra: A Wizard Festival with shows, quests, vendors and visits from fantasty authors is 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Country Village Bothell.

Look up: Luftwaffe Day is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Flying Heritage Collection, 3407 109th St. SW., Everett. You can see iconic German aircraft of World War II including Bf 109 Messerschmitt and a rare Focke-Wulf Fw 190. Planes fly at noon, weather permitting. The flight demo is free, museum admission, $10-$14, includes the exhibits, lectures and a chance to meet pilots.

Natives: Learn how to include native plants in your garden at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Edmonds Wildlife Habitat Native Plant Demonstration Garden. There will be classroom time and time in the garden. Get more info.

Sea creatures: Check out what’s revealed when the tide goes out. This weekend will have very low tides and rangers at Cama Beach will bring up beach critters from 10 to 11:30 a.m. for people to take a closer look. Get more info. Beach Watchers will also be showing off cool critters this weekend. You can find them at Mukilteo Lighthouse Park from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday and at Kayak Point County Park from 10 a.m. to noon Friday and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday. Get more info.
