SEATTLE — In hopes of keeping frequent riders from having to arrive at parking lots at dawn just to commute to work, Sound Transit is considering a permit system for parking lots.
KIRO-FM reported that Sound Transit tried a small pilot project with a permit program last year, and is now considering a system-wide permit program that could start as early as next year for carpoolers.
Sound Transit spokesman Bruce Gray says the agency is conducting a rider survey to decide the best way to introduce potential changes. If implemented, riders with ORCA cards would be able to apply for permits and be guaranteed a spot in parking lots until 9:30 a.m.
Gray says at least half of the lots would still be available for non-permit parking.
