SAN MARCOS, Texas — Amazon.com Inc. plans to build a fifth fulfillment center in Texas.

An Amazon.com statement Thursday said about 1,000 full-time jobs will be created in San Marcos, 30 miles south of Austin.

Employees at the 855,000 square-foot San Marcos fulfillment center will pick, pack and ship smaller customer items, such as books, electronics and toys.

Amazon.com in June announced plans for a fulfillment center in Dallas, which remains under construction.

Seattle-based Amazon.com’s other Texas fulfillment centers are in Coppell, Haslet and Schertz.

The company currently has more than 3,500 full-time workers in Texas.
