Car-motorcycle crash investigated as possible vehicular assault

LAKE STEVENS — A Lake Stevens man is being investigated for vehicular assault after a crash last week that seriously injured a motorcyclist.

It happened just after 2 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Vernon Road and Lundeen Parkway, Lake Stevens Police Chief Dan Lorentzen said.

Detectives believe the motorcycle might have been struck from behind by an Acura Legend. The motorcyclist, described as being in his 40s, was pinned under the car. He was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The Acura driver, a 20-year-old Lake Stevens man, reportedly smelled like alcohol at the scene. He was arrested and police obtained a judge’s permission to take a blood sample as potential evidence.

The man was released pending the toxicology results, which have not come back yet, the chief said Monday.

“Once those come back, we are looking at a vehicular assault charge,” Lorentzen said. “It will go to the prosecutor once the case is complete, and they will make the final determination.”
