Former Everett firefighter gets 8 months in jail for sex crimes

SEATTLE — A former Everett firefighter was sentenced Friday to eight months in jail for sex crimes.

David “Pete” Vier, 60, has been in custody since his July 20 guilty plea. He appeared Friday in King County Superior Court.

Seattle police alleged that Vier in 2014 agreed to pay for sex with what proved to be a fictional 15-year-old girl. He later pleaded guilty to communication with a minor for immoral purposes and two counts of second-degree promoting prostitution.

Vier was at one time the Everett Fire Department’s division chief of emergency medical services, its third highest rank. He was demoted last summer after his disturbing conduct toward women — including two who accused him of stalking — led to him being banned from Providence Regional Medical Center Everett and from the city of Edmonds. His demotion came with a pay cut, down to $87,000 a year.

Vier also had been arrested in Island County for domestic violence involving an ex-wife. No charges were filed in that case.

Vier, who spent 25 years at the fire department, retired not long after his arrest. His case led to proposed reforms at the fire department. Some of those reforms are pending ongoing negotiations between the city and the firefighters union involving their contract.
