GRANITE FALLS — Two different fires kept crews busy Friday in the Granite Falls area. No one was hurt, though.
The first fire was reported at 10:52 a.m. at a single-story house along 130th Street NE, between Granite Falls and Arlington, Fire Chief Jim Haverfield said.
Crews were alerted by an alarm company after smoke detectors were triggered in the living room. They arrived to find smoke and flames.
Investigators believe the fire started in a field and spread to the home. Damage was estimated at $60,000.
The fire started in an area that has been used to burn trash in the past, according to the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office. The property owner denied any burning.
Just before noon, the second fire was reported at the Iron Mountain Quarry off of Gun Club Road. Arlington Rural was the first department on scene, Haverfield said. The fire had started in rock-processing equipment. The motor and rubber belts were burning.
“There was a large amount of black smoke that made it look a lot worse,” Haverfield said.
It’s unclear how that fire started, but it’s possible something got stuck in the machinery, he said. It took about 30 minutes to get the power turned off and the fire extinguished.
Firefighters from Robe Valley, Lake Roesiger, Getchell, Marysville and Lake Stevens also assisted at the two scenes.
