Monroe house damaged by fire

MONROE — Two people were displaced by a house fire north of Monroe on Sunday afternoon.

The fire was reported at 2:18 p.m in the garage of the home along 209th Ave SE, Assistant Fire Chief Steve Guptill said. Flames were contained to the garage, but smoke, heat and water caused significant damage throughout the house. Two dogs escaped.

The cause of the two-alarm fire remains unknown. It is believed to have started in a nearby trash bin, according to the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office.

“There were no reports of fireworks in the area at the time of the fire,” Guptill said.

More than two dozen firefighters worked the blaze, drawing crews from Monroe, Snohomish, Sultan, Clearview and Duvall. They remained on scene until after 7 p.m.
