Candidate filing for local offices ended May 15.
Filing became final when the withdrawal period ended May 18.
Non-partisan positions with three or more candidates appear on the Aug. 4 primary ballot, with the top two vote getters advancing to the Nov. 3 general-election ballot. Non-partisan positions with only one or two candidates appear only on the November ballot.
The exception is the Snohomish County Review Commission, for which all candidates for all positions will appear on the November ballot (16 in District 3, 10 in District 4), with each voter casting votes for up to three candidates in his or her district; the top three vote getters in each district will join the commission for one year to propose amendments to the County charter.
The only local partisan position, the County Council District 3 position that Democratic Councilwoman Stephenie Wright holds, must, by state law, appear on both the primary and general-election ballots, even with only one candidate. Candidates can file as registered write-in candidates through July 17. Registered write-in candidates have their votes counted even with minor misspellings or other errors; they pay the same filing fee as candidates on the ballot. Write-in candidates, registered or unregistered, can qualify for the general-election ballot by placing at least second in the primary with at least 1 percent of the vote.
