EVERETT — Workers at Everett-based Cadence Aerospace-Giddens will vote May 14 and 15 on whether to join the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.

Machinists union District Lodge 751 collected signed vote requests from “a substantial number of workers” at the aerospace supplier, according to the union.

Based on the number of requests, the National Labor Relations Board approved the IAM’s petition to schedule the vote.

Approximately 250 hourly workers can cast their ballots at two Cadence-Giddens’ locations — Bomarc Business Park near Paine Field and on Merrill Creek Parkway.

If a simple majority of the workers approves joining the union, the workers will comprise a new bargaining unit in District 751.

The company contends that not all those 250 workers are actually eligible. An NLRB hearing will be held after the vote to consider Cadence-Giddens’ petition.

Boeing is a major customer for the company’s Everett plants. The parent company, Cadence Aerospace, also supplies parts to Airbus Group, Lockheed Martin, Northrup Grumman and Fokker.

“Cadence corporate has contracts with its suppliers and its customers,” District 751 Organizer Director Jesse Cote said in a press release. “Cadence-Giddens workers deserve the same consideration.”

Earlier this month, the IAM postponed an organizing vote at Boeing South Carolina.
