EVERETT — A book launch party will be held next Saturday, March 28, to celebrate the publication of the first history of Everett’s Lowell neighborhood.
The book, “150 Years of Lowell History,” was a work of love by longtime Lowell resident and activist Gail Chism and co-author Karen Redfield.
This week the book was given the Malstrom Award by the League of Snohomish County Heritage Organizations.
Lowell was established on the banks of the Snohomish River in 1863, 30 years before Everett was established. Everett annexed the area in 1962.
The party will feature a slide show on Lowell’s history by Everett Public Library historian David Dilgard, a cake and other refreshments, and a book signing by the authors.
The book will also be on sale at the party for $25.
Chism, who has lived in the neighborhood for more than 50 years, has long been active in the Lowell Civic Association.
There will also be old photos and other memorabilia on display, some from Chism’s own collection of historical artifacts.
“If you have pictures or stories to share, we’d love to see them,” Chism said.
