Frontier Co-op of Norway, Iowa, is voluntarily recalling dozens of products made with the firm’s organic garlic powder, including spices and mixes sold under the Simply Organic and Whole Foods brands, because they may be contaminated with salmonella.

Frontier announced Tuesday that it was pulling 40 products, including Simply Organic ranch, guacamole and creamy dill dip mix, and Whole Foods’ Organic Muchi Curry Seasoning because of the potential problem. It’s a Class 1 recall, the highest level, in which the product has a reasonable probability of causing harm.

Firm officials said the raw material received by Frontier tested positive for salmonella during surveillance conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. No illnesses have been associated with the recall of the products, which are sold in all U.S. states and in Canada.

Frontier said it is immediately initiating new precautions to bolster the safety of the supply chain.

Salmonella bacteria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
