EVERETT — Snohomish County added more jobs in January, as it usually does after the winter holidays.
But even as the employment rate increased, the number of manufacturing jobs here continued to decline, according to the state’s Employment Security Department, which released the county job numbers this week.
In January, the county’s not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose 5.3 percent. That was slightly below the 5.5 percent increase the county had in January 2014.
All major industry sectors, except manufacturing, in the county saw job growth compared to the prior year. Retail trade picked up 1,300 jobs, leisure and hospitality 1,200, and professional and business services 1,000. However, manufacturing declined by 900 jobs to 62,400 total jobs in January 2015, a 1.4 percent decline.
There were an estimated 274,600 non-farm jobs in Snohomish County in January, according to the Employment Security Department.
