EVERETT — Boeing has picked up an order for three 747-8 freighters from Azerbaijan’s Silk Way West.
The deal is worth more than $1.1 billion at list price, but actual sales prices are typically negotiated down.
With weak demand for really big airplanes, such as the 747 and Airbus’ A380, Boeing is almost certainly under pressure to offer significant discounts.
Many industry observers expect the 747 line to close later this decade after Boeing delivers Air Force One replacements.
There are 56 747-8 freighters in service, according to a news release from Boeing.
