EVERETT — Prosecutors believe a prostitute and a drug dealer planned to rob an Everett man and ended up killing him.
Jeffrey Wehl was shot once in the head on Jan. 21 inside his W. Casino Road apartment. He died three days later.
Prosecutors on Friday charged Ali Ramadhan and Kyelee Milner with first-degree murder, alleging that the teenagers committed the killing during a robbery.
Ramadhan, 18, is suspected of shooting Wehl with a .22-caliber pistol. Milner allegedly told police that she went to the apartment to engage in prostitution with the victim. She was 17 at the time.
She admitted to detectives that she knew Ramadhan was armed with a gun and intended to rob Wehl, Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Chris Dickinson said. Wehl, 57, was known to wear and own expensive jewelry.
At some point, Ramadhan allegedly told Milner that he was going to shoot the victim. Milner said after Ramadhan shot Wehl he pulled jewelry off the dying man.
Ramadhan, who also calls himself “Ali Baghdad,” denied shooting Wehl. He allegedly admitted that he brought crack cocaine and a prostitute with him to the man’s apartment. He suggested that Milner was responsible for the man’s death, Dickinson wrote.
Witnesses told detectives that Ramadhan admitted to shooting the victim and robbing him. He reportedly showed a witness some bloody jewelry and a black pistol. Another witness reported going with Ramadhan to the Mukilteo Lighthouse Park, where they burned some of Wehl’s stolen belongings in a beach fire pit, Dickinson wrote.
Ramadhan was seen driving a stolen car away from Wehl’s apartment. The car was abandoned and police found the slain man’s mail inside.
Wehl’s neighbor identified Ramadhan as the man she saw running from the victim’s apartment after hearing the gunshot.
Ramadhan is being held on $1 million bail. In asking for high bail prosecutors said the teenager recently came to the U.S. from Iraq and they are concerned he’ll flee the country if he is released. Milner is jailed on $500,000 bail.
Both are expected to be in court next week to answer to the charges.
