EVERETT — A Seattle company that makes submarines is relocating its headquarters to Everett’s waterfront.

OceanGate, Inc. will move this spring into the Port of Everett’s Waterfront Center, where it has a five-year lease for 3,600 square fee.

The company is finishing development of its five-man submersible Cyclops. The project is a partnership between the company and the University of Washington’s Applied Physics Lab.

It will use its Everett location to complete assembly and sea trials, according to a news release from the company and the port.

“The Port of Everett represents an excellent operations location for our company,” Neil McCurdy, OceanGate’s chief operating officer, said in the release. “Due to the unique nature of the work we do, having immediate access to the water is critical. By combining multiple locations into our new space at the port, OceanGate is increasing its productivity, efficiency and effectiveness.”

With the new tenant, the port’s Waterfront Center is nearly at capacity. After Bluewater Distilling finishes its expansion in April, there will be 2,500 square feet of shop space open.

Port Commission President Troy McClelland called OceanGate “a great example of what can be accomplished when you mix entrepreneurship, science, technology and manufacturing.”
