Weekend best bets: Glass quest, Valentine’s, garden show, beer

A quest: The Great Northwest Glass Quest begins on Friday and runs for 10 days. You look around the Stanwood-Camano Island area for little plastic balls that are hiding. If you find one, it can be redeemed for a beautiful, hand-blown glass ball. Get all the details in our story here.

Blooming: Check out the Northwest Flower &Garden Show all weekend in Seattle. You’ll find inspiration in beautiful display gardens and education from a variety of speakers. There are also vendors that could be dangerous to the checking account of any serious gardener. Read all about it in our story here.

Love the hops: Sip some extreme IPAs with your favorite beer fan on Saturday. The Washington Hop Mob Triple IPA Roadshow makes a stop at Special Brews in Lynnwood on Saturday. Love: Valentine’s Day is Saturday. If you don’t have plans yet, how about staying in with your sweetie and making a decadent burger and delicious milkshake? Check it out right here.

Fishing: A fly-fishing show is Saturday and Sunday in Lynnwood. There will be vendors, demonstrations and more. There’s also a film festival. Get more details here.

Author event: Daniel James Brown, the author of “The Boys in the Boat” will talk about his book at 7 p.m. Friday at the Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave. Books will be available for sale. The event is free.

For the animals: Everett Animal Shelter’s benefit concert, Shakaroo, is 7 p.m. Saturday at the Everett Performing Arts Center. Local reggae/rock band Nigel Mustafa will perform. The event includes a pooch parade, and you can meet with dogs available for adoptions. Get the details in our story here.

Free: This weekend, national parks will be free from Saturday to Monday in honor of Presidents Day. Around here that means Olympic National Park and Mount Rainier National Park. North Cascades National Park is always free. And on Monday, you won’t need a Northwest Forest Service Pass to use Forest Service recreation sites.

In style: Put on something fancy and bring your dancing partner to the Red &White Ball on 6:30 p.m. Saturday in Snohomish. There will be a cocktail hour, followed by a lavish buffet and specialty desserts. After that it’s live music and dancing. Tickets are $60 each or $100 per couple. Get more info and tickets here.
