The USS Ingraham, a decommissioned Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate, is scheduled Wednesday to be towed from Naval Station Everett to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton.
Once in Bremerton, its responsibility will be given to the U.S. Navy’s Inactive Ships Office, which will strip it of its “USS” designation. The Ex-Ingraham, as it will be called, is scheduled to be dismantled for scrap.
The 25-year-old Ingraham was the last of the Navy’s frigates to be built, and given the motto “The Last and the Finest.” It had a full complement of 200 sailors and 30 officers, plus two SH-60B Seahawk helicopters.
The Ingraham was decommissioned in November.
The Navy is decommissioning its frigates and filling their role with littoral combat ships, a new class of fast and agile ships designed to operate close to shore.
