EVERETT — Protests are planned this week at 64 Walmart stores in Washington, including several in Snohomish County, as part of an ongoing campaign for better working conditions at the giant retailer.
The protests are being supported by the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union. More than 1,500 demonstrations are planned across the country this week, according to a union spokesman.
Walmart workers are not unionized.
Similar demonstrations around Black Friday have become almost a regular part of the week around Thanksgiving Day.
Protests planned on Wednesday include Walmart locations in Arlington, Everett (1605 S.E. Everett Mall Way), Lynnwood (1400 164th St. S.W.), and Marysville. Friday’s schedule includes stores in Everett (11400 Highway 99) and Lynnwood (17222 Highway 99).
This summer, Walmart workers and labor supporters demonstrated at one of the retailer’s Lynnwood stores as part of the OUR Walmart campaign to get better working conditions.
