EDMONDS — Investigators say unattended cooking caused a fire that destroyed a house Tuesday in the Edmonds area. Two people were displaced, but neither was hurt.
The fire was reported about 12:30 p.m. at the single-story house along 93rd Place W., said Leslie Hynes, spokeswoman for Snohomish County Fire District 1.
Damage was estimated at $400,000, Hynes said.
Medics treated a man at the scene for possible smoke inhalation. The man was OK and his dog also escaped the fire, Hynes said. The man’s wife was at work at the time.
Crews stayed on scene for hours monitoring hot spots. One firefighter was taken to a local hospital as a medical precaution, Hynes said.
The American Red Cross was assisting those displaced.
The fire started in the kitchen, where food was cooking on the stove, Hynes said.
