BRIER — No one was injured in a fire that caused more than $60,000 damage and displaced five adults and two children in Brier Wednesday night.
The fire was reported just before 7:30 p.m. at a house in the 23400 block of 29th Avenue W by a neighbor returning home from work.
“He saw flames coming from the side of the house,” Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said. “He alerted two adult residents and they safely exited the home. The rest of the family was away at the time of the fire.”
Flames were visible at the south end of house when the first firefighters arrived from Brier Fire Station 18. Crews from Fire District 1 and Northshore Fire had the blaze under control in about 15 minutes.
Investigators determined the fire started outside in a garbage can next to the southwest corner of the house, but were unable to determine the cause, Hynes said.
Flames ignited the siding, then spread into the attic.
Damage left the house uninhabitable.
Support 7 responded to assist the people. They have insurance and plan to stay with family members, Hynes said.
