TACOMA — The Pierce County prosecutor has charged an 86-year-old University Place man with vehicular assault for a wrong-way crash on Interstate 5 near the Tacoma Dome.
The prosecutor’s office tweeted Wednesday that the man had a blood alcohol content of .123 percent. The legal limit in Washington is .08 percent.
The Washington State Patrol says the man was driving the wrong way in the southbound lanes late Monday night when he collided with two cars. A woman passenger in one of the cars suffered a broken leg.
The News Tribune reported charging papers say Panos Spiros Palas told a trooper he had been drinking brandy for a cough.
He said he had been driving from Auburn and got turned around in a construction area in Tacoma.
