Astronaut to speak at Future of Flight

Astronaut commander Chris Hadfield will be at the Future of Flight Aviation Center to sign books and deliver a program highlighting his experiences in space. The Canadian became an Internet sensation singing David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” while in space. The 90-minute event begins at noon on Nov. 8. It includes a signed copy of his new book “You Are Here: Around the World in 92 Minutes” and a boxed lunch. Tickets are $40 per person at http://tinyurl.com/AstronautBookSigning.

Port of Everett releases proposed 2015 budget

The Port of Everett has released its 2015 Preliminary Budget Guide that outlines the Port’s priorities and the proposed funding allocation for 2015. The budget schedule calls for a public hearing on Oct. 28 and proposed budget adoption on Nov. 4. If needed, Nov. 18 is reserved for budget adoption. Veterans offered free haircut, dinner

As a “thank you” to the nation’s veterans, two large chains are offering veterans freebies for Veteran’s Day. Great Clips hair salon is giving a free haircut card to customers who purchase a service to give to a veteran. On Nov. 17, Golden Corral will thank thousands of active duty and retired United States military personnel for their service with a free dinner buffet and beverage, while raising donations for Disabled American Veterans.

Everett indie film company starts preproduction work

Chronicle Factory, the Everett company behind the award-winning web series, STILL, is currently in preproduction on the remake of its horror feature CUSTOMER 152, which was originally released in 2004. The original and upcoming films were written, produced and directed by Jonathan Holbrook. Production will start in Everett in February 2015.

Tourism up in Snohomish County for September

According to the Smith Travel Research report for September, Snohomish County hotels finished the month up over 2013 in all three measurements; average daily rate, occupancy and revenue per available room. Overall demand was up 11.5 percent as compared to this month last year and revenue saw a 21.9 percent increase.
