BOTHELL – Construction is expected to start next month on the McMenamins brewpub and hotel at the historic Anderson School in downtown Bothell.

The Portland, Oregon-based company raised $7 million in private equity earlier this year to support the $26 million project, what is expected to become the largest McMenamins establishment in Washington.

The resort is scheduled to open in fall 2015.

Over the next year, McMenamins will transform the art-deco style Anderson school building into a 72-room hotel with private baths, restaurants, small bars, on-site brewery and a first-run movie theater. The resort will also include an updated swimming pool.

As part of the agreement between the city and McMenamins, Bothell residents will be able to use the swimming pool and a community room for free for 15 years.

McMenamins is currently performing some pre-construction work on the property and expects to be under full construction by mid- to late November.

Mike McMenamin, who founded the company with his brother Brian, said in a statement that Bothell is an ideal location near two major highways, the Sammamish River and just 30 minutes away from Seattle. He also praised the school as having great bones and lots of character.

He said that bodes well for the popularity of the project.

“Perhaps more important than financial returns is the positive impact that live music, historical spaces, quality jobs and places to gather over a pint can have on a community,” Mike McMenamin said in the statement.

McMenamins includes 52 locations throughout Oregon and Washington and is one of the largest producers of craft beer, spirits and wine in the region.
