EVERETT — David San Luis, a sailor assigned to the USS Nimitz, recently was among five servicemen and women awarded the Spirit of Service Award.
San Luis is a native of Guam who enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 2004.
On the Nimitz, he works as a system and database administrator.
The Spirit of Service award honors outstanding military personnel who are actively involved in community service when off-duty.
During the Nimitz’s 2013 Western Pacific deployment, San Luis volunteered with cleanup at a school in Thailand. He built a trampoline there and rerouted a sewage pipe.
He also volunteers at an animal shelter in the Arlington area.
The Spirit of Service awards were presented by The American Legion.
