EVERETT — The United Way of Snohomish County has sent out an additional $400,000 in relief money to benefit two social services groups on the front lines of providing aid to families affected by the Oso mudslide.
The United Way is contributing $200,000 each to the Arlington Family Resource Project and North Counties Family Services in Darrington.
The United Way had previously provided $400,000 to the two groups, almost all of which has now been spent to support families in the form of emergency cash allotments, gas cards and other help.
Christie Connors, executive director of the Community Resources Foundation, which operates the Arlington Family Resource Project, said the project has helped more than 60 families that have been affected. The new influx of cash will help people who have lost their homes, she said.
“A lot if them are still staying in hotels, and we hope this will help them get into permanent housing,” Connors said.
The United Way’s Disaster Recovery Fund has raised $2 million so far and disbursed $925,000. Premera Blue Cross is supporting the fund’s administrative costs, enabling 100 percent of the money raised to go toward families and communities affected by the slide.
