SPOKANE — The University of Oregon has hired Kelly Graves of Gonzaga as its women’s basketball coach.
Graves has taken Gonzaga to six straight NCAA tournaments and three trips to the round of 16. He replaces Paul Westhead, whose contract was not renewed.
Oregon said Graves signed a seven-year contract. The 51-year-old coach was in the midst of a 10-year contract at Gonzaga.
Graves became Gonzaga’s coach in 2000. In all, his teams made seven NCAA tournament appearances. The Bulldogs advanced to the Elite Eight in 2011 and were a No. 6 seed this season, losing to James Madison in the tournament and finishing 29-5. Before going to Gonzaga, he coached St. Mary’s from 1997-2000.
The Bulldogs had an average home attendance of 5,426 this season, among the top 20 nationally.
