MUKILTEO — A police pursuit ended in a crash in Mukilteo on Friday morning. No injuries were reported.
The chase started just before 8:30 a.m. on westbound Highway 526, said trooper Mark Francis with the Washington State Patrol.
A trooper clocked a car going 65 mph in a 45 mph zone, Francis said. The car fled from an attempted traffic stop.
The car jumped a curb and crashed into some rocks in the area of 70th Street SW and 48th Avenue W., Francis said.
“He didn’t make it very far,” Francis said.
The man in the car ran away. The car turned out to be stolen. A loaded handgun was found inside.
Mukilteo Elementary School was briefly put into lockdown while police dogs searched for the man.
The man, 19, was arrested about two hours later. He was knocking on a woman’s door and pretending he needed directions, Francis said.
The woman called her daughter, who works for the school district.
She told her daughter what the man outside was wearing. That led to a 911 call, and Mukilteo police making the arrest.
