Announcements: Snohomish chamber needs volunteers for Easter bonnet contest

The Snohomish Chamber of Commerce Easter Parade Committee is looking for volunteers to help organize the 2014 Easter Bonnet Contest. The contest immediately follows the April 19 Snohomish Easter Parade. Volunteers are needed to help with the Easter Bonnet Making Workshop, registration, judging and more. More than 350 community members gathered at Snohomish High School to raise money for district students and to gain awareness about the programs the Snohomish Education Foundation provides to support student success. Through the use of web conferencing software, attendees had the choice of physical attendance or virtual experience. The event raised a record $56,000.

Housing Hope hosted its annual East County Community of Hope Dinner March 13 at The Golf Club at Echo Falls in Snohomish. The event raised a record $42,000 after event expenses. Event sponsors off-set event costs so that all money raised at the event directly supports homeless families in East County.

Verizon Wireless announced that it is adding 47 full-time retail positions in the Seattle metropolitan area, including Seattle, Tacoma, Everett, Redmond, Lakewood, Puyallup and Redmond. According to the Smith Travel Research report for February 2014, Snohomish County finished the month of February with roughly the same positioning as 2013. Overall demand was down 1.4 percent as compared to this month last year but revenue saw a 1.6 percent increase. Snohomish County finished third compared to other counties in occupancy and ADR and second in RevPar.

The U.S. Small Business Administration announced that it will award grants to state and local economic development agencies, business development centers, colleges and universities to support programs for innovative, technology-driven small businesses under SBA’s Federal and State Technology (FAST) partnership program. Proposals must be submitted to http://www.grants.gov by 11:59 p.m. on April 11.
