Russian shipping line to start calls at Port of Everett

EVERETT — Beginning in July, Sakhalin Shipping Co. will begin service from the Port of Everett to support the mining industry in the Russian Arctic.

The cargo, which is being transported from Everett to Pevek, Russia, will include equipment and mining supplies. SASCO currently specializes in project cargoes in support of the construction and mining industries.

“Partnerships with shipping lines are critical to the ongoing success of our trade operations,” marine terminal director Dave Madill said in a news release. “Building partnerships and relationships for cargo to move through the Port of Everett means jobs and economic stability for the region. We are pleased to work with SASCO to get these products to Russia.”

SASCO vessels, most of which are ice-classed, are able to carry a wide range of cargoes, including containers, bulk items, timber, heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. SASCO runs ferry service between mainland Russia and Sakhalin Island, has a number of domestic and international container lines.

“The Port of Everett has developed an excellent product geared toward shippers specializing in exports to Russia,” said Ralf Bremsner, vice president of SASCO America Inc., General Agents. “Our newest vessel is gearless and the availability of efficient gantry cranes is an obvious plus when evaluating the best port of call for our vessels. I have personally been involved with exports from the Port of Everett over the years, and I have always found the entire staff eager to assist in all situations, so I am pleased we can continue to work together building the SASCO service in the Pacific Northwest-Russian Far East trade with ice-class tonnage.”
