Explosives removed from south Everett home

EVERETT -- People were evacuated from a neighborhood south of Everett Monday night while federal, state and local law enforcement agencies removed explosives from a home.
There were no arrests and none are planned, FBI spokeswoman Ayn Dietrich said Tuesday.
"The neighbors in the area were notified during this process and the immediate area was secured for everyone's safety," Dietrich said. "The public was not and is in no danger."
The Everett Police Department, Washington State Patrol, Snohomish County Sheriff's Office, along with the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives all helped assess the materials found in the home on 130th Street SE near Silver Lake, Dietrich said.
The materials, which were not identified, were removed from the home with the owner's cooperation.
KIRO-TV, The Herald's news partner, reported that a bomb robot was used to trigger four controlled explosions.
Dietrich said she couldn't discuss what was done with the materials. However, she did say it is standard protocol under some circumstances to neutralize explosive or flammable materials at the scene.
"We are not talking about what we found," she said.
The FBI received information that the home near the Bothell-Everett Highway might contain explosives or flammable materials. It shared the tip with local agencies.
Law officers were on the scene from about 4 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.
They determined that the incident was not connected in any way to terrorism or a planned act of violence, Dietrich said.
Investigators will continue to assess the nature and origin of the materials found in the home, she said.
