Report: United in talks with Boeing for 200 jets

United Continental Holdings is in exclusive talks with the Boeing Co. to buy 200 single-aisle aircraft, reports Bloomberg News.

United has called off negotiations with Airbus. It had been in talks with both Boeing and Airbus over the last six months.

The 200-jet deal would be for a mix of Boeing's existing 737 and upgraded 737 MAX.

An all-Boeing deal would be a boost for the Chicago-based jet maker after losing its exclusive position with American Airlines last August. American split an order for 460 single-aisle jets between the two, ordering Airbus aircraft for the first time. Boeing tentatively launched the re-engined 737 MAX for the order and since has grabbed more than 1,000 commitments and orders.

The 737 MAX will be built in Renton, where the Next-Generation 737 is assembled.
