Celebrate Earth Day on Whidbey

Sign up for Weekend to-do list
Whidbey Island's sixth annual Earth Day festival celebrates the planet through dance, drama and a huge human peace symbol on Sunday.

The Earth Day Festival begins at noon in Langley with Dances of Universal Peace, in which audience members can take part.

Other events:

• 1 p.m.: Community peace photo. Join in and be part of a huge human peace sign.

•1:30 p.m.: Performance of "Mother Earth vs. World's People" by improv troupe Comedy Island. This short play chronicles the historic trial in which Mother Earth brings charges against World's People in the International Court of Last Resort for "acting in ways to cause her grievous personal harm and limit her inherent civil rights to a fruitful existence."

•Workshops and presentations throughout the day on topics such as sustainable backyard vegetable gardening and drought-tolerant container gardening.

There will also be music, children's activities, food and a display of alternative vehicles and tiny homes.

The sixth annual Earth Day Celebration takes place from noon to 4 p.m. at Historic Bayview Corner, in and around the grounds of the Bayview Cash Store and Bayview Community Hall, 5603 Bayview Road, Langley.

Admission is free and the event takes place rain or shine. Call 360-321-4145 or go to www.goosefoot.org.
