State distillers showcased at Snohomish event

SNOHOMISH -- People will get a chance on Friday to taste small samples of liquor from distilleries around Washington state.
The city is hosting its first "Snohomish on the Rocks: A Celebration of Washington Spirits." It is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Snohomish Business Park, 1824 Bickford Ave. Tickets cost $25 and pay for five tastings, food samples and live entertainment. People can buy the tickets at the door or by going online at www.GROWWashington.biz/spirits.
The city is in partnership with the nonprofit Washington GROW, which aims to help business development in the area. Proceeds from the event will go to the nonprofit.
The event aims to showcase 27 distilleries and their products and it also being hosted by the city to promote Snohomish as a place to do business, economic development manager Debbie Emge said.
"We have three distilleries and have room for many more," Emge said.
Between 200 and 300 guests are expected to attend. The event features award-winning distilleries from the state. These include Skip Rock Distillers, Sun Liquor and Rain City Spirits.
There is also a private event with an education seminar and a trade show for members of the industry from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vendors can still register for the free event by calling Emge at 360-282-3197.
"It introduces local distilleries to the community," GROW founder and director Carolyn Eslick said. "It gives the chance to the community to show what distilleries are all about."
