50 years ago (1962)
Art Cressell was elected chairman of the Central Memorial Committee making plans for Memorial Day services. Hazel Tait was named treasurer, Elsie Trevallee secretary, and Bertha Overton would be in charge of publicity. The services would included action on the waterfront and at the pylon on the courthouse lawn.
Four freshman from Snohomish County in the College of Engineering at the University of Washington were chosen for a special honors program next fall. They were Gordon A. Walter, Everett; Darrol K. Haug, Everett, Harold V. Hagen, Snohomish; and William H. Lee, Alderwood Manor.
25 years ago (1987)
There were only six seats left on the official tour to Everett's Sister City, Iwakuni, Japan, on the inland sea on Southern Honshu. The price of $1,665 included air, hotels, bullet train and city tours of Tokyo, Nara, Kyoto and Hiroshima. Those interested could call Travel Designers or Judy Davidson of the Mayor's Office.
County lakes that looked promising in the 1987 trout fishing preview were Armstong, Riley, Twin, Martha (by Warm Beach), Howard, Shoecraft, Loma, Spada, Storm, Flwoing, Blackman's, Silver, Serene, Martha (by Alderwood Manor), and Hannan.
