ARLINGTON -- Both drivers were killed in a two-car head-on crash Wednesday night near Arlington, the Washington State Patrol reported.

A Chevrolet passenger car driven by Andrew Enderud, 31, of Lake Stevens, crossed the center line and collided with a car driven by James Arneson, 64, of Lynnwood, according to a state patrol memo.

A passenger in Arenson's Cadillac, Thory Arneson, 38, of Lynnwood, was injured and taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett. He suffered serious injuries, but they are not expected to be life-threatening, trooper Keith Leary said Thursday.

Leary said he believes Thory Arneson is the driver's son.

The crash occurred around 9 p.m. on Highway 9 just north of the Stillaguamish River at Schloman Road outside of Arlington.

"What we are still investigating is why the vehicle crossed over," Leary said.

Speed and weather could be factors, he said.

"It's dark in that area," Leary said. "There are not street lights. The road was wet, so weather could have been a factor, but we are looking at speed as a factor as well."

The state patrol is seeking witnesses who might have seen the accident or the cars involved before the collision. Witnesses are asked to call state patrol detective Jeff Rhue at 360-654-1204.

"Any piece of information, even if it is minor, is encouraged," Leary said.

The stretch of two-lane highway was closed during the crash investigation for nearly four hours but traffic was light in that area.
