Wonder what the first Boeing Co. 787 will look like when it begins carrying passengers as early as October?
Boeing and the 787’s launch customer, All Nippon Airways, showed off Saturday the first Dreamliner that passengers will see in service.
The jet maker plans to hand over the first 787 to ANA next month, after receiving certification on the aircraft from the Federal Aviation Administration. The Japan-based carrier has said the Dreamliner’s first flight will be a special charter trip from Tokyo to Hong Kong, taking place about a month after the jet is delivered.
On Saturday, Boeing rolled ANA’s first 787 out of the paint hangar in Everett, sporting ANA’s paint scheme. Although Boeing has been flying 787s painted in ANA’s logo for tests, those aircraft aren’t the ones Boeing will deliver to its customer.
Journalists were allowed to take a look inside ANA’s 787. Boeing’s Dreamliner features large, dimmable windows, sleek overhead bins and an open setup inside the cabin. Airlines like ANA pick their own seating arrangement.
ANA has 55 787s on order with Boeing. The airline originally expected to receive its first 787 in May 2008.
