Dunn Lumber will close its Marysville yard

MARYSVILLE — After 44 years, Dunn Lumber’s Marysville store will close its doors March 31, a victim of the slump in home building and home construction projects in the area, said Dunn Lumber Co. President Mike Dunn.

Dunn said the market in the Marysville area has been weak “the last few years,” made worse by the sluggish economy. Even acquiring an 80,000-square-foot retail building adjacent to the store for an expansion didn’t gain the extra business expected. Dunn called it “a last-ditch effort” to remain profitable in the area.

Dan Luxmore, an Everett resident who has been manager of the Marysville store for the past 13 years, will move to a management position with Dunn’s Mill Creek store. Merchandise and most of the staff of eight employees are expected to be transferred to the Mill Creek facility.

Dunn Lumber, based in Seattle, still maintains 13 other stores in the Puget Sound area, including ones in Everett and Mill Creek.

Like other Dunn outlets, the Marysville store was a major center for lumber, building materials and tools for contractors and weekend carpenters with home projects. Many customers had been shopping at the Marysville store for 25 to 30 years.
